Company History
Who could have known that, when James Leath bought that first 1928 Chevy dump truck, he was laying the foundation for one of the area's leading heavy construction companies three generations later? In the 1950s "Dad" Leath's new business served government and private contractors building our interstate highway system as well as large telephone and underground utility contractors. In the 1960s, the firm expanded to serve Kansas City Power & Light and residential and commercial grading, paving, and excavation projects. By 1970, Leath & Sons purchased a septic tank cleaning business, further expanding their capabilities for residential and commercial clients. In 1984, the company had expanded to 50 people!
Since that time, the firm has maintained its reputation for getting the job done right, on time, and on budget. Today, Leath & Sons is still the family-owned, industrious company that James Leath envisioned. At the helm is Becky Leath with a vast knowledge of construction and administrative skills. Jim Leath, Jr. manages much of the day-to-day operations along with Becky's brothers "Jimbo" and Jeff.
From their headquarters in Raytown, MO and service yard in Kansas City, MO, Leath & Sons provides a full range of bridge & highway construction, electrical, commercial excavation, utility services, and emergency underground sewer repair services for residential, commercial, and government facilities.
